v DESCRIPTION:
The new type impact modifier ACM is a copolymer of HDPE, acrylic acid, and has the basic feature of CPE, but its impact strength is much higher than that of CPE and glass temperature far lower than CPE, so its impact modification effect is more evident than CPE. Besides, ACM can effectively improve the weathering resistance of PVC products.
WORKING MECHANISM :
It is found by research that the weak impact strength of PVC under lower temperature is mainly caused by the comparatively strong intermolecular force of PVC.
The comparatively strong intermolecular force makes the relative displacement between PVC molecular, which is hard to take place when PVC products are impacted. Thus impact energy can not be effectively transferred into internal friction heat, resulting in the breaking of PVC material.
When plasticizers are added into PVC, which will penetrate into the PVC molecular and reduce the intermolecular force to improve the impact strength of PVC. But plasticizers are compound with low molecular weight, they can not form the individual phase when the added quantity is less, this will result in migration and volatile of plasticizers, i.e. reversal plasticization which makes PVC material more fragile. If a large quantity of plasticizers are added, the mechanical property of PVC products will be reduced greatly. Thus plasticizers are not allowed to be added into hard PVC products. CPE as a high molecular polymer will not migrate, but its impact property at lower temperature is not so ideal due to its glass temperatures is at -10℃ about . Besides, the weathering resistance of CPE is not as good as that of ACR .
For overcoming the shortcomings of plasticizers and CPE, we developed a new type impact modifier ACM which is a copolymer of HDPE and acrylic acid and has the basic feature of CPE, but its impact strength is much more higher than that of CPE and glass temperature far lower than CPE, so its impact modification effect is more evident than CPE. Besides ACM can effectively improve the weathering resistance of PVC products .
v APPLICATION
The application method of ACM is the same as that of CPE. In processing there may be a slight decline in extruder current and torque, and it may be eliminated by adjusting lubricant agent in the ingredients.
